About three to four years ago, my company started down the DevOps track – and we’ve come a long way.
We’re currently doing automated testing. We’re a small company from a certain standpoint, but we hit about 36 releases a week. For us, there was never this huge wall between dev and ops.
But for me, personally, coming from an operations background, it’s intimidating applying for a DevOps job – will I have enough dev experience? Will this job involve heavy coding? I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking there should be more clarification.
The challenge I’m seeing at the moment is, DevOps has become so heavy on the dev side, and ops is kind of shrinking. I’m not really seeing uniformity. I’m not really seeing how just my ops skills are needed. Because you can’t have one ops person on every team, ops has really become more of a multi-functional role.”
