“Many IT professionals get stuck because they can only think about the technical problems.”

Humans of DevOps

Many IT professionals get stuck because they can only think about the technical problems.

“I’m a system administrator that has been using GNU/Linux since 2000. I like to build human capacity in IT in developing countries, which I have been doing since 2007 in Ethiopia and Cuba.

The #1 culture challenge is getting the leadership to fully support DevOps on a consistent basis. We see that different members of the leadership are trying to adopt DevOps but we are failing to do this uniformly among the different projects.

DevOps has surely has made my job a lot easier. Automating things makes room to focus on important work that brings value to the business. Many IT professionals get stuck because they can only think about the technical problems. DevOps lets you think about many more things. The most important thing to think about is how you can help the business reach their #1 priority. Once you defined that you can look at the technical solutions to get you to that goal. This mind shift was brought to me by the whole DevOps movement.

There is a lot of information about DevOps floating around that doesn’t reflect all of the key values: Culture, Automation, Metrics, and Sharing. Many articles focus only a couple of those values, but not all of them. Any DevOps transformation process is built around those four key values. If you miss one of them, for sure you will face a lot of difficulties.”
